Optimism seems to underline a new study conducted by eTrucker.com for 2015 as 65% of trucking companies surveyed expect business this year to either improve (40%) or stay the same (25%). In addition 24% were unsure with only a small number (15%) feeling results will be worse. Read more at eTrucker.com.
Mobile, AL may have a long-term future solution to major traffic issues on interstate 10 if a proposal for a huge new bridge just south of downtown is approved. The nearly 3 mile long bridge would be larger than the Golden Gate Bridge and has an estimated cost of $850 million. Vince Calametti, chief engineer with the Alabama Department of Transportation in southwest Alabama, said a mix of federal and state funding is likely The bad news is that such a project if approved may not be completed until the later part of the next decade.
Natural Gas production domestically turned in a remarkable October setting not only a new record for the month but it marked the eight straight month in which daily production has set a new high. The yearly increase versus the same month in 2013 stood at +6.8%, more details and statistics are available at powermag.com.
The Pennsylvania Turnpike increased tolls by five percent last week to aid with funding for improvements. Annual investments run at over $600 million for road and bridge improvements with over $1.6 billion in active construction projects ongoing funded by toll increases. Full details at paturnpike.com.
Gasoline demand has soared in recent months due to falling prices to halt a gradual trend in lower consumption that had been fairly consistent with the exception of seasonal variations. Analysts are surprised as the demand is usually not impacted greatly by pricing as business/recreational needs tend to shape consumption. Read more at BusinessInsider.com.
